Open Call artwork display
As part of the Art Strategy for New Douglas Bennett House and the Pears Maudsley Centre, Bethlem Gallery hosted an Open Call in Summer 2022.
The Open Call invited artists with lived experience of mental health conditions, or who live in Croydon, Lewisham, Southwark or Lambeth to submit work. The brief was for artworks which felt calming and were inspired by nature.
We were delighted to receive over 100 submissions, of which 32 were chosen by artists affiliated with Bethlem Gallery. The works will be installed in staff areas across both new buildings.
A selection of the shortlisted works is now on display in the Maudsley Hospital main entrance building corridor (between Reception and the restaurant), and we invite the hospital community to vote on where they’d like each piece to be installed in the new buildings. Voting is online via the QR codes displayed with the artworks.
