This is the resources page for Bethlem Gallery’s Online Symposium The Art of Practice, which took place on 15 May 2026.
In the symposium we shared practice from across the sector with a view to potentially developing a network focusing specifically on art and mental health from organisational perspectives.

Neil Springham: Building a community of practice in response to “unprecedented demand”
This is Neil’s introduction and welcome to the symposium.
Dr. Neil Springham is the executive director of therapies at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust where he also leads patient experience and service user and carer involvement. He is the chair of trustees of Bethlem Gallery.

Lisa Williams is Principal Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Service Manager at the Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit (ADRU).
Artist Daniel Regan on the practice and ethical approach of framing artwork in a health context.
Daniel is a visual artist and creative health consultant based in London, UK. For over 20 years Daniel has specialised in the exploration of complex emotional experiences through the arts and his work explores themes of disability, heritage, belonging and what it means to be human. His work is informed by his intersectional identities as a queer, disabled and neurodivergent person of mixed heritage. Daniel is also the founder and Director of Arts & Health Hub, a non-profit organisation supporting artists that are exploring health & wellbeing in their creative practice. His exhibition Daniel Regan: (be)longing showed at Bethlem Gallery 22 April – 11 July 2026.
