Please submit your application of interest by email to kate.watson@bethlemgallery.com by 9am Monday 15th July 2024. The application must include:
- Artist statement (max. 250 words)
- CV or Portfolio
- Up to 10 jpg files (no larger than 3MB) of recent work or up to 5 links to video works related to your proposal
Please ensure that one or more of the above demonstrates your skills/experience of facilitation of creative workshops with community groups.
Following review of all applications, we will shortlist 3 artists who will be invited to submit a full proposal for the project. This will be paid at £200 per artist.

Mountsfield Recovery House Artist in Residence 2024
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Mountsfield Recovery House Artist in Residence Programme, funded by Bethlem Gallery, Maudsley Charity and Richmond Fellowship, and supported by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
This programme invites an artist with lived experience of Mental Health Services to conduct workshops over three months, working collaboratively with service users and staff. These workshops will generate ideas, discussions, and desired outcomes, culminating in a body of 2D artworks for the building.
This is a paid role.
Residency dates: October 2024 – December 2024
Location: Lewisham, SE13
2024 Programme Guidelines
Eligibility
While experience in mental health settings is not mandatory, demonstratable facilitation skills with community groups is essential and artists should demonstrate a willingness to develop their practice at Mountsfield Recovery House (Lewisham, SE13).
- 18+ years of age
- Artists of all visual arts disciplines will be considered – working towards a 2D output
- Artists with lived experience of mental health services
- Artists will commit to actively participating in the program during the residency: October 2024 – December 2024
- We welcome applications from applicants from all backgrounds and particularly encourage applications Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and disabled candidates. We are committed to equality and diversity.
Selection
The artist will be selected via the Bethlem Gallery x SLaM Art Group, which includes service-users, staff and carers from the hospital community. Staff and lived experience individuals from the Recovery House will be co-opted to the group for this programme.
