Workshop: Mr X: Living cardboard structures
Bethlem Gallery
Saturday 30 April 2022
10.15am-12pm
Join artist Mr X as we make inventive living structures from cardboard, tape and found objects.
In this workshop we will be joined by artist Mr X as we make inventive living structures from cardboard, tape and found objects. Mr X is an artist using readily available materials to construct structures and vehicles within the limitations of the hospital environment. The workshop will include a demonstration of Mr X’s hand-constructed vehicle which can often be seen in the grounds of Bethlem Royal Hospital and beyond.
‘The structure is simultaneously a form of escape, a hiding place, a filter, a second-skin – an alternative way of inhabiting the institution but also a reflection and a critique of its spaces and rules.’ – Michaela Ross, Curator.
*Please get in touch if you have any access needs you’d like to share with us in advance of booking. The workshop will take place outside on the grass next to the gallery if the weather is good, if the weather is wet we will be inside.

This workshop is part of a series led by artist Beth Hopkins. Each month we will take inspiration from a different Bethlem Gallery artist, using their work as a jumping off point to create our own artworks and develop new ideas. Keep an eye out for details of future workshops in our newsletter, on social media and on our Eventbrite page.
