How can we work together collectively in therapy? What approaches can bring people together to share their fears, thoughts and hopes? Safety in Numbers explores how people living with anxiety disorders utilise therapies to their advantage, how they engage in and relate to radical approaches to Occupational Therapy and how the culture of a hospital ward can impact people’s experiences and resilience during a period of illness.
“The treatment taught me to confront social situations I found difficult. Part of the therapy was to put myself in experimental situations with others…So, I started to use those situations – like a lion’s den – to see if I could take on the lion.” – From Paul’s story, Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma.
Presenting artworks, diagrams, film, objects and live events, this exhibition has emerged from a collaboration between the Occupational Therapy Department, the Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit and Bethlem Gallery all based at Bethlem Royal Hospital.
