The Flash Fusion Anthology Book Cover

Flash Fiction Workshop

Saturday 9 August, 2025
2-4pm
Bethlem Gallery

To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, Anita Goveas is offering a free writing workshop inspired by the anthology ‘Flash Fusion’.

Flash fiction is usually described as a story that’s complete in under 1000 words, and can be even shorter. But successful flash isn’t just about word count, it’s also about using word choice and structure to create a satisfying piece of prose in which every word counts.

In this workshop we’ll use story examples and writing exercises to think about what makes a successful flash fiction, and what those techniques can do to shape your writing in general. You’ll try out some writing techniques and hopefully leave the session with a couple of draft stories.

Anita Goveas is a British-Asian writer of flash fiction and short stories. Her debut flash collection, Families and other natural disasters, is available from Reflex Press.

She’s also co-edited (with Susmita Battacharya and Farhana Khalique) Flash Fusion an anthology of flash fiction, writing prompts and interviews by and about  authors of South Asian Heritage available from Dahlia Publishing.

Goveas is Creative Future’s 2025 London Writer In Residence, in partnership with and hosted by Bethlem Gallery.
