Art Fair Theme Award Winners 2024

This year, Bethlem Art Fair artists were invited to submit works on a set theme: ‘Belonging’, inspired by a new project between Bethlem Gallery and artist Daniel Regan.

Daniel said; “I’m really pleased to be this year’s judge for the art fair’s themed award focusing on the theme of belonging. Belonging is such an important aspect of our identities and can have a deep impact on how we see ourselves and relate to others. I’m deeply impressed by the selection of submitted works and look forward to choosing a winner.”

Entries in this category were judged by Daniel, with first prize going to Teri Berkengoff for her textile work ‘I’m Getting Better’. Daniel said on the work: “There’s something so intriguing about how the stitches run into/over one another and shift direction, the folds in the fabric, and the really touching text. It made me think about how we belong to ourselves and sometimes drift off and return to ourselves.”

Second prize went to Patrice G Shema, with the work ‘Strength of Love’. Daniel said “I love the style of it aesthetically and these kinds of different facets of identity. Very beautiful!”

Both artists will receive money for art materials.

Special mentions went to Rose Marie Weston, Kerry Charlton O’Connor, Mylène Chahine and Joanne Barrett (see images below).

Thank you to Daniel for judging this award.

Many of the works are on sale as part of Bethlem Gallery Art Fair 2024 which is open until 11 January 2025.
