Join artist and designer Julie Verhoeven for this upcycling workshop, part of Bethlem Live Lounge.
Julie Verhoeven is a British illustrator and designer who has collaborated with brands including Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Versace and Peter Jensen. While she is recognised primarily for her work in fashion, she has also contributed illustrations to books, magazines and album covers. Her work has been widely exhibited, including at London’s Hayward Gallery. She is a design academic at both Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art.
Julie Verhoeven will be talking about her work career and inspirations and leading a workshop in upcycling music T-shirts for the upcoming Bethlem Live Lounge exhibition project.
About Julie Verhoeven
Julie’s eclectic output is extensive across both art and fashion and most recently best expressed through the medium of moving image. She favours visuals and movement as a direct means of communication and most recently directed music videos for David Holmes and Primal Scream.
Her formal training was in fashion design and is she is primarily known for her work as a fashion illustrator in the noughties. Julie has collaborated with various fashion houses and beauty brands, including Marc Jacobs, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Chloé, and M.A.C. amongst others, producing a broad range of content, including video, installations, illustration and performance.
Alongside Julie’s activity in the fashion world she has exhibited internationally and teaches fashion on the MA at Central Saint Martins. There a 3 monographs of her work in print and most recently a 2023 publication ‘I want your meat and cheese, blood and pie ‘ with artist Alan Faulds.
About Bethlem Gallery workshops
Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Concessions are available for SLaM service users, people over 60, students, people receiving ESA, people registered disabled and their carers. We take photos at our workshops to use on social media – please speak to the facilitator if you do not want to appear in any photos.
