Liliana Dmitrovic, A song of how did we get here?

Liliana Dmitrovic

Bethlem Artist Collective

Liliana is a member of the Bethlem Artists’ Collective.

Her work comes from interests which include maths, music, data and languages. These evolved into drawing and examination of codes and patternologies (not a real word!)

Liliana got her BA Drawing degree as a ‘mature’ student but has not been making as much art as she would’ve liked mostly because life got in the way. She draws with whatever she has at hand, deliberately choosing the familiar and ‘homely’ media, such as pens, thread, yarn. The repetitive mark making creates patterns and rhythms, which sometimes glitch and break, regroup, transform into something different. The codes and patterns of images, text, of ideas of loss, memories of spaces, are deconstructed then rebuilt as abstract works sewn directly into the canvas with coloured thread.

Her current work is about the process, the play – allowing the space between a glitch and a form, the in-between moments when anything can happen, to come to the forefront; sometimes she will start off with a number of ‘rules’ then play them out on the paper or canvas, enjoying the unpredictably organic.
