Sanctuaries

Anxiety Festival, ORTUS, Maudsley Learning Centre

21st June 2014

Artists Christina Kral and ‘Patient X’ present their collaborative work commissioned by Anxiety Festival 2014 exploring the idea of personal sanctuaries and acts of self-care within the everyday.

The modular cardboard spaces explore the concept and practice of dwelling. These participatory structures are the result of a three month-long exchange of ideas and working methods between two artists.

By continuously transforming the material, the artists negotiate their environments and create temporal spaces of self-expression. The residency was co-hosted by Gasworks and Bethlem Gallery and was funded by the Maudsley Charity.

Anxiety 2014 is a new London-wide arts festival, curated by the Mental Health Foundation and taking place throughout June. The festival explores anxiety, looking at its causes, how it affects all of our lives, and how it can act as a creative force. It brings together leading and emerging artists to address anxiety from different angles: from medical, social and historical perspectives
