Opening celebration – Join us for tea and cake on Saturday 3 September, 2-4pm at the Gallery.
Lifestyle at Bethlem Gallery is a solo exhibition by Raymond, exploring domestic interiors and the practice of drawing.
The exhibition features drawings and paintings made over decades by Raymond, an artist who has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts and the Southbank Centre.
Working from images in lifestyle and interior design magazines and the world around him, Raymond creates stylised drawings of domestic interiors, people and objects, characterised by an individual sense of perspective, heavy outlines, and flat blocks of colour.
Works in this exhibition explore and critique the idealised interiors and lifestyle imagery we see everywhere. With his curved mark making, multi-point perspectives and use of solid, bright colour, Raymond gives the interiors of glossy magazines texture and movement. Often the lines of these velvety drawings stretch right to the edge of the paper or board, inviting the viewer in.
A film about Raymond drawing forms part of the exhibition.
