Walking tour of Bethlem’s Walled Therapy Garden

Guided tour – free event
Saturday 9 September, 2023
3.30pm – 4.30pm

Join us on a walking tour of Bethlem Royal Hospital’s beautiful walled Therapy Garden, lead by Sergio Heredero, a Horticultural Therapist.

There has been an Occupational Therapy (OT) garden at Bethlem Royal Hospital in some form since the hospital moved to this site in 1930. Now funded by Maudsley Charity, the OT Garden provides gardening sessions to patients, giving them time off the ward in a supported environment. The project enables patients and staff to connect with nature, grow vegetables and engage with wildlife.

Places are free but limited so please sign up via the form.

Meet at 3:30pm in front of the main steps of Bethlem Gallery and Museum of the Mind.

This tour is part of Open House 2023, delivered as part of This is Croydon, London Borough of Culture, with the support of the Mayor of London and Croydon Council.

Our Occupational Therapy department’s Makers’ Space is also hosting a free exhibition of work on Saturday 9th September between 1pm and 4pm, and we invite visitors to pop in before their garden tour if they would like.

You can read more about the restoration of Bethlem Royal Hospital’s orchard, lead by Head of Occupational Therapy Peter O’Hare, here. Peter was supported in the development of the grounds by Bromley Council’s Environmental Officers.
