Folk Mask and Costume Workshop with Beth Hopkins
Saturday 27 May, 2023
Bethlem Gallery
11am-1pm
Join us for a mask making workshop to create your own costume and join our folk parade happening later the same day.
Learn about the new folk movement and different characters in folk history, including Jack in the Green and the Kentish Hooden Horse. We will provide mask making materials, flora, fauna and face paints, but you are also welcome to bring your own hats, cloaks, horns and greenery.
Folk traditions are being embraced by a new generation, using creativity as a way to reconnect with nature in response to the climate crisis. It is an inclusive movement welcoming all, that celebrates the fey, whimsical and creative power that comes from connection to the land.
This workshop is led by artist and curator Beth Hopkins and inspired by artist Max Reeves’ photography series Folk Authority, which celebrates the folk customs and traditions of Britain.
This event runs alongside the group exhibition Elsewhere which shows from 24 May to 9 September 2023. Scroll down to buy your tickets.
