Art and Asylum
David Beales
Bethlem Gallery
Private View Saturday 12th July 2008
16th July – 10th September 2008
By appointment only
An exhibition of paintings, drawings and prints by David Beales.
David Beales invites the viewer into a world usually denied to the general public, a world of corridors and locked doors, of distress and tenderness. The stories of his first hand experience give a unique insight into life within psychiatric health care and demands answers to the questions, what is asylum, what is society and where do we feel safe and valued? His images plant the viewer directly into the ward or hospital or street scene and detail the truthful brutality and compassion of life when you are most vulnerable.
